The Ghan: 3000 km across Australia

Ok, it's time to catch up with our blog again. :-)

We left Singapore for Darwin, Australia. It has been Max' dream for years to travel across Australia by train, and mainly there are two options to do this: West (Perth) to East (Sydney) in five days. Or, North (Darwin) to South (Adelaide) in three days, which is what we did.
So, first we had to kill one day in Darwin... not a big problem.

Great food with a view of the sunset at The Jetty Restaurant...

Ok, but now for the serious stuff: THE GHAN has arrived!

Ready for the 3000km (1875 miles) trip... let's go!

First stop after only a few hours in the city of Katherine...

enough time for a hike to...

... the Katherine Gorge.

Btw, did we mention that it was HOT?  Like 45 degrees Celsius!!!

Glad they had showers on the train.
Back on board The Ghan: of course, the train ride is mainly about the landscape. Watching the great Australian outback pass by. Pretty amazing.

Next stop (actually already on day 2): Alice Springs. Insert obvious Smokie joke here: _________________

Lots of Aboriginal art here...

Back on the train! More landscape / outback ....

Oh yeah, these were our seats ... also for sleeping at night. Sylvia is looking a little tired, I wonder why? ;)

Alright, enough said. More pictures through the train window:

... aaaand finally ...
...arrival in Adelaide.

What an awesome train ride! Go to http://www.railaustralia.com.au and book your trip, you won't regret it!
