Singapore

Next up: a brief two-day stopover in Singapore. Not only conveniently located for us en route to Darwin, Australia (we'll get to that), but also definitely worth a visit by itself.

The rooftop of Marina Bay Sands, a Vegas-style integrated resort which opened two years ago.

Next time you're in Singapore (and after winning the lottery), make sure to stay here and enjoy the infinity swimming pool on top!

Or, alternatively, consider the world-famous Raffles Hotel (opened in 1899). Although, bummer - they only have black cars available ...

The skyline again, as seen from the ground... with a tiny hint of blue sky on an otherwise very rainy day.

Speaking of weather: Singapore is located only 137km (85 miles) north of the equator. So, it's usually hot. Very hot.

Maybe because of that, there are many many air-conditioned shopping malls...

... where they seem to promote their products with crazy Germans (like the one next to Lukas Podolski).

Singapore's national mascot and icon, the Merlion.

The First Generation, by Singaporean sculptor Chong Fah Cheong, honors the first immigrants and the important role of the Singapore River in their lives.

Ok, time for a "grande" Chai Tea Latte...

Nightlife: catching up with Alexandra over drinks...
... and authentic Singaporean cuisine in the Holland neighborhood. Yum!
One more thing left to do: Sylvia spent two months in Singapore for an internship back in 2000. Time to visit the Clementi neighborhood and see how much has changed in 12 years.

Let's just say: pretty much everything.

Time to move on: back to the airport for a late-night flight to Australia! Stay tuned...
